Overview
XTools' image compression feature utilizes advanced WebAssembly technology to achieve efficient image compression on the browser side, without the need to upload to the server, protecting user privacy while providing a fast compression experience.
Technical architecture
1. WebAssembly Core
We used the WebAssembly module from the Squoosh project, which is optimized for image processing on the browser side:
-
JPEG Compression: Using the mozjpeg encoder
-
PNG Optimization: Using oxipng for lossless compression
-
WebP Support: Using the libwebp encoder
-
AVIF Format: Using the rav1e encoder
2. Front-end implementation
import { compress } from '@jsquash/jpeg';
const compressImage = async (file: File, quality: number) => {
const arrayBuffer = await file.arrayBuffer();
const compressed = await compress(arrayBuffer, { quality });
return new Blob([compressed], { type: 'image/jpeg' });
};
User Experience Design
1. Drag and Drop Upload
Supports drag and drop upload, providing an intuitive file selection experience.
2. Real-time Preview
Compressed before and after comparison preview, allowing users to clearly understand the compression effect.
3. Batch Processing
Supports simultaneous compression of multiple files, improving work efficiency.
Privacy Protection
All image processing is completed locally, and will not be uploaded to the server, ensuring user data security.
Summary
XTools' image compression feature achieves efficient local image processing through WebAssembly technology, providing excellent user experience while protecting user privacy. This pure frontend implementation not only reduces server costs but also improves processing speed.
