How to use Split CSV or Excel

Split a large CSV or Excel file into smaller parts, either a fixed number of rows per file or a set number of files. The header can be repeated in every part, and big CSV files are streamed, so even multi-GB files split without loading everything at once.

    1. 1

Drop a CSV, TSV, TXT, XLSX, XLS or ODS file on the page and wait while the rows are counted.

    2. 2

Under Split by, choose Rows per file or Number of files and enter the number.

    3. 3

Keep First row is the header and Repeat the header in every file on if each part needs column names.

    4. 4

Choose CSV or Excel (XLSX) as the Output format and click Split file.

    5. 5

Click Download ZIP, or download single parts from the file list.

    Frequently asked questions

    Are my files uploaded?

No. Splitting runs entirely in your browser and the parts are built on your device.

How big a file can it handle?

CSV files are streamed in chunks, so multi-GB files work. Excel files are read fully into memory, so very large workbooks depend on your device's RAM.

Does every part keep the header row?

Yes, as long as Repeat the header in every file is on. Turn it off to keep the header only in the first part.

    How are the parts named?

Each part gets the original name plus a number, such as sales_part-01.csv, and all parts come together in sales_split.zip.

My CSV is in GBK or Shift_JIS. What happens to the encoding?

Choose the source under Text encoding if it was not detected correctly. CSV parts are written as UTF-8, and Add BOM for Excel is switched on automatically so Excel opens them without garbled text.

Can I split a workbook with several sheets?

Pick one sheet under Sheet. Only that sheet is split; run the tool again for other sheets.
