How to use Extract Text from PDF

Copy the text out of a PDF page by page, without uploading it. Extraction starts as soon as the file opens. Join wrapped lines back into paragraphs, add page markers, and download the result as a .txt or Markdown file.

    1. 1

Drop a PDF on the page; its text is extracted automatically.

    2. 2

Optional: enter Pages, such as 1-3, 5, to extract only those pages.

    3. 3

Under Line breaks, choose Join paragraphs for pasting into a document, or Keep as in PDF, and switch Page separators on or off.

    4. 4

Click Copy, or download the text as .txt or .md.

    Frequently asked questions

    Can it read scanned PDFs?

No. Scanned pages hold pictures of text rather than text, and OCR is not part of this tool. Pages without a text layer are detected and listed as skipped.

Why does some extracted text look like gibberish?

Some PDFs use fonts without a Unicode map, so the letters cannot be recovered reliably. The tool tells you which pages are affected.

    Is formatting kept?

You get plain text grouped into paragraphs. Fonts, colors, and images are not included; the Markdown download adds a heading for each page.

Does it work with password-protected PDFs?

Yes. Enter the password when asked; it is used only in this tab.

    Is my PDF uploaded?

No. The text is read in your browser and the file stays on your device.
