How to use Add Page Numbers

Add page numbers to a PDF in any of nine positions, in formats like Page 1 of 10, Roman numerals, or letters. Skip the cover, number only some pages, mirror numbers for booklets, and check a live preview before saving. Nothing is uploaded.

    1. 1

Drop a PDF on the page.

    2. 2

Pick a Position on the grid, and turn on Mirror on even pages for printed booklets.

    3. 3

Click a preset or edit the Text using {n} and {total}, then set the Numbers style and Start at.

    4. 4

Under Pages, enter a range or turn on Skip first page, then adjust Font, Size, Color, and Distance from edge.

    5. 5

Check the preview, click Add page numbers, then Download.

    Frequently asked questions

How do I leave the cover page without a number?

Turn on Skip first page. With Count skipped pages on, the second page shows 2; turn it off to start counting on the first numbered page.

    Can I print “Page 3 of 12”?

Yes. Type Page {n} of {total} in the Text field or pick that preset. {total} is the last page number, and it follows the Start at value.

Do Chinese, Japanese, or Korean labels work?

Yes. Characters the built-in PDF fonts can't encode are drawn as a sharp high-resolution image, so they display correctly.

Does it handle rotated or cropped pages?

Yes. Numbers are placed on the page as you see it, taking its rotation and visible area into account.

Does adding numbers change anything else in the PDF?

No. Numbers are drawn on top of the existing pages; the original text and images stay as they were.

    Is my PDF uploaded?

No. The numbers are added in your browser and the file stays on your device.
