    Air-Gap QR Transfer

Send text between devices with no network, split across a sequence of QR codes
    • Files never leave your device
    • Runs in your browser
    • Free, no sign-up, no watermark

Nothing goes over a network. The data travels only as light between the two screens.

Move text or a small file between two devices that share no network: one shows a sequence of QR codes, the other scans them.

    What to send

    0 characters · 0 B

Type some text or choose a file to start.

    Transfer settings

Smaller frames are easier to scan from far away or with older phones; larger ones finish sooner.

Lower the speed if the receiving camera misses frames.

Paste the missing list from the receiver, e.g. 3, 7-9. Leave empty to send all.

For printing, or for sending the frames as images when a camera is not practical.

How to use Air-Gap QR Transfer

Move text or a small file, up to 512 KB, between two devices that share no network. One screen plays a loop of QR codes, the other device scans them with its camera, and a SHA-256 checksum confirms the data arrived intact.

    1. 1

On the sending device, choose Send, then Text or File, and enter the text or choose a small file.

    2. 2

Adjust the Transfer settings if needed: data per frame, speed, error correction and Compress before sending.

    3. 3

On the receiving device, open this tool, choose Receive and click Scan with the camera.

    4. 4

Point the camera at the sender's screen while the frames play; they can arrive in any order.

    5. 5

When the transfer is complete, copy the text or click Download file.

    Frequently asked questions

Does the transfer use the internet, Wi-Fi or Bluetooth?

No. The data travels only as light from one screen to the other camera.

    Is the data encrypted?

No. Anyone who can see or film the screen can read the frames. For secrets, encrypt the text first with AES Encrypt & Decrypt and send the result.

How large a file can I send?

Up to 512 KB. Larger files would need too many frames to be practical. Text usually shrinks a lot with Compress before sending.

What if some frames are missed?

The receiver lists the Missing frames. Paste that list into Send only these frames on the sender, or lower the speed or the data per frame.

Can I transfer without a camera?

Yes. Click Download frames (PNG, ZIP) on the sender, move the images by any means, and add them under Or add frame images on the receiver.

Does the receiving device need XTools?

Yes. The frames use XTools' own format, so open this same tool on the receiving device.
