How to use Burn Subtitles into Video

Burn SRT, WebVTT or ASS subtitles permanently into a video, so they show in any player and on any social site. Set font, size, color, outline, background box and position, shift the timing, and preview everything on the video before exporting.

    1. 1

Drop the video, then drop the subtitle file (SRT, VTT or ASS) in the Subtitle file panel.

    2. 2

If characters look garbled, change Encoding; fix lines in Edit subtitle text, and shift the timing with Timing offset (ms).

    3. 3

Under Style set Font, Size, Bold, Text color, Outline and Background box; under Layout set Position (Bottom or Top), Margin and Max line width.

    4. 4

Choose the output Format, click Burn subtitles, then Download.

    Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between burned-in and soft subtitles?

Burned-in subtitles are part of the picture: they always show and cannot be turned off. Soft subtitles are a separate track or file that players can switch on and off.

Is the styling from my ASS file kept?

No. Only the text and timing are read; ASS override tags are dropped and the style from the panel is used. Simple <b>, <i>, <u> and color tags can be applied with the tag option.

Chinese or Japanese subtitles show garbled characters.

The file is probably not UTF-8. Pick its encoding, such as GBK / GB18030, Big5, Shift_JIS or EUC-KR, in the Encoding list.

The subtitles are early or late.

Enter a Timing offset in milliseconds. Positive values show subtitles later, negative values earlier.

Does burning lower the video quality?

Every frame is re-encoded with the subtitles drawn in; the audio is copied as is.

    Are my files uploaded?

No. The video and subtitles are processed in your browser.
