    How to use Crop Video

Cut away the edges of a video frame. Draw a crop box, lock it to 1:1, 9:16, 16:9, 4:5, 4:3 or 21:9, or remove letterbox black bars automatically. You can shorten the video in the same pass.

    1. 1

Drop a video on the page.

    2. 2

Pick an Aspect ratio, or click Remove black bars to detect the picture area.

    3. 3

Drag the box on the video, or type X, Y, Width and Height in source pixels under Crop area.

    4. 4

Optionally turn on Also trim and choose a Format, then click Crop video and Download.

    Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between cropping and resizing?

Cropping removes parts of the frame and keeps the rest at full detail. Resizing scales the whole picture to a new size. Use Resize Video for the latter.

Why are width and height always even?

Video encoders require even dimensions, so the crop box snaps to even numbers.

What if Remove black bars finds nothing?

Then the picture already fills the frame. You can still draw the box by hand.

    Does cropping lower quality?

The picture has to be re-encoded, which is lossy but barely visible at normal settings. Pixels inside the crop are not scaled.

    Is the video uploaded?

No. Cropping runs in your browser with hardware encoding where available. Files your browser cannot decode use ffmpeg, a one-time download of about 32 MB that is slower.
