How to use Extract Audio from Video

Save the soundtrack of a video as MP3, M4A, OGG, WAV or FLAC. Choose Original to copy the audio exactly as it is stored, which is instant and lossless. Several videos can be processed at once, or just part of one.

    1. 1

Drop one or more videos (MP4, MOV, MKV, WebM, AVI, FLV, WMV) on the page.

    2. 2

Under Output, pick a Format, and for MP3, M4A or OGG choose a Bitrate.

    3. 3

Optional: with a single video, turn on Only part of the audio and drag the range on the waveform.

    4. 4

Click Extract audio, then Download, or Download all (ZIP) for several videos.

    Frequently asked questions

Which output format should I choose?

Original keeps the audio exactly as recorded and falls back to M4A if the codec has no audio-only format. MP3 plays everywhere, M4A (AAC) is smaller at the same quality, WAV is uncompressed for editing, and FLAC is lossless at about half the size of WAV.

    Does extracting lose quality?

Original copies the audio data without any change. MP3, M4A and OGG re-encode the sound, which is lossy; 192 kbps is transparent to most listeners.

Can I extract only part of the audio?

Yes. Turn on Only part of the audio and choose the range on the waveform, or press I and O at the playhead. This works with one video at a time.

    Are my videos uploaded?

No. Extraction runs in your browser and the files stay on your device.

Why does one file say it uses ffmpeg?

Your browser cannot decode that file's audio, so the ffmpeg engine is used. It is downloaded once (about 32 MB) and is slower, but works the same way.

Can I paste a YouTube or other video link?

No. The tool only works with video files on your device.
